Before renewing a contract, Geneva teachers must first sign a "Declaration of Intent." Basically, it's a piece of paper stating that you believe you are called by God to either return, or not return, as a Geneva teacher next school year. For some reason, it just seemed weird to sign my name to God's will. I have no heart-stirring conviction that motivates me to stay. By the same token, there is nothing spurring me to clean out my desk and turn in the key to my classroom. The best I can do is to say that I'm called by default. There is no reason for me to leave, so I'm not. I don't necessarily "have peace" with my decision, but this morning I scrawled my signature on the paperwork, shoved it in my headmaster's box, and quickly walked away. Geneva School of Boerne '06-'07, here I come.
For now...Waco + Canyon Lake + Nickel Creek = Miss Spain's spring break.
